One of the moments of the day I find most important is wake up time, believe it or not, it conditions how you will be feeling the rest of the day. No, I don’t mean getting out of bed with the right foot. We should all get up like cats. Yeah, cats! Why is this? Because of fascia: a three-dimensional cobweb of connective tissue that holds us together and acts as a source of power for the body. At night your “fascia” congeals and the collagen fibers form bonds in areas where you have curled yourself up. When you stretch out those areas first thing in the morning, you break up the glycoaminoglycans and hyaluron (the glue-y part) of your body’s connective tissue.
So, how should we stretch? Well you can go from a normal lazy stretch and yawn to a sophisticated ritual of upward and downward-facing dog (Yoga poses for those who aren’t familiarized 😉 ). The important thing is to do it as soon as you wake up. It’s the flexion and extension of the back that’s most important, but side stretches and rotations are great too. And yawn — yawning really helps your neck. These movements break thousands of hydrogen bonds, which have formed in your fascia overnight and prepare you for the movement of the day.
So if you want to get active, start YAWNING?
LOOK! Gisele does it, why shouldn’t we?!
And the next thing I find is reallyyy good is getting a big dose of vitamins and minerals: SMOOTHIE!
Mine has no sugar, no diary and lotsss of taste!
Spinach, pear, banana and orange Smoothie
- 10 large spinach leaves washed cut into smaller pieces
- 1 pear diced
- 1 banana diced
- 1 orange squeezed to get the fresh juice
Mix all the ingredients in a blender until smooth. Thats it!
Don’t worry, you won’t even taste the spinach and you’ll be adding lot’s of important nutrients (Iron found in spinach combined with the orange juice makes easier the assimilation of the mineral 😉 )
Now you’re GLOWING, bring it on!! 😀
